About SJFF (est. 2018)
Our Mission:
To encounter Christ through fellowship with our sisters and brothers who are drawn to God through the experience of fly fishing.
Connection
People long for connection. We believe the two most transformative connections are discovered in God “in whom we live and move and have our being”(Acts 17:28) and with one another, both in the love of Christ. Enjoying connection with the Divine majesty of nature, the St. John’s Fly Fishers serve Christ and further the Kingdom through a welcoming community of adult women and men (16 years or older) who share a passion for fly fishing. Fly fishing connects us to the beauty and holy mystery of nature, as well as the beauty and holy mystery of each other…the Imago Dei. Ultimately, we encounter the beauty and mystery of Holiness itself as we are taken into God’s heart, where we experience deepest healing, peace, and love.
To foster connection, the St. John’s Fly Fishers:
1. are immersed in prayer & scripture study;
2. organize trips
3. offer classes & clinics
4. service in the community
Prayer & Scripture
Our Prayer:
Almighty God, like the fishermen you chose as disciples, guide us that we are always optimistic and yet willing to accept failure as part of this ministry in your world, knowing tomorrow is a new day, abundant with new opportunities to be fishers of people by following you; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Scripture: 1&3 Outdoor Bible Study
Every 1st & 3rd Thursday evenings, we gather at the firepit for time outdoors with scripture under the stars as an extension of our love for God and God's creation.
5:30-6:00, bring your sandwich/drink
and we'll get the fire started.
6:00-7:00 we'll explore scripture.
Don't forget your chair, a headlamp, your Bible (any translation), and an openness to the Holy Spirit.
Trips to the Water
UPCOMING
Fly Fishers Fall Trip Oct 4-6 // RSVP by Sept 19
We're headed to Rosman, NC in the heart of the NC mountains at the headwaters of the French Broad River! We have a cabin rented right on the East Fork of the French Broad River, with room for 8 inside the cabin as well as several outdoor camping spots. We'll be fishing for brown, rainbow and brook trout close by with multiple streams to choose from.
Meals are part of the trip package -- including lodging for an estimated $200 per person.
Our intel source will be Headwaters Fly Shop for where to fish, flies and leader/tippet combos to use. You are welcome to reach out to them in advance to prepare for the trip.
Bring your 3-6 weight fly rod combos, 4x and 5x leader and tippets, a camp chair and the snacks and beverages you prefer. Bring waders and boots. Please let us know if you need to borrow or rent waders. We have several sources including Jesse Browns in Southpark. It's likely to be cooler and we'll be enjoying a camp fire both evenings. Warmer clothes are a good idea.
We will likely be leaving for this trip at different times on Fri, October 4th -- and will help line up carpooling and caravanning -- as we get closer.
Please RSVP to Craig Murden by Thursday, September 19th. We hope you can join us for this trip experience in God's creation.
