ENGAGE IN FAITH
FOR ADULTS
Engage the Mind
At St. John’s, we believe that faith is a lifelong journey, and engaging the mind is an essential part of spiritual growth. Through Adult Forum, Seasonal Offerings, and Bible Studies, we provide opportunities to explore scripture, theology, and Christian practice in ways that challenge, inspire, and deepen our understanding. Adult Forum fosters thoughtful discussion on faith and spirituality each Sunday. Seasonal Offerings invite reflection through special studies like Lattes in Lent, enriching our journey through the church year. Bible Studies offer a variety of formats—whether in-person, online, or outdoors—so that all can find a space to grow in knowledge and faith. Wherever you are in your spiritual walk, we invite you to join us in engaging the mind and deepening your connection with God and one another.
Engage the Spirit
At St. John’s, we nurture the spirit through Contemplative Opportunities that invite us into deeper communion with God. Centering Prayer (Mondays & Tuesdays) provides a space for silent, receptive prayer, helping us rest in God's presence. Lectio Divina (Thursdays) allows us to engage scripture prayerfully, listening with the "ear of the heart." Morning and Evening Prayer frame our days with communal worship, while the Evening Rosary offers a meditative practice of prayerful reflection. Whether through silent prayer, scripture meditation, or time-honored spiritual practices, these offerings help us slow down, center ourselves, and open our hearts to God’s presence. We invite you to join us in Engaging the Spirit as we seek deeper faith, peace, and connection.
Engage the Body
Engage the Body is about honoring God through movement, fellowship, and time spent in creation. Whether casting a line, refining balance and mindfulness, or sharing a round of golf, these activities offer opportunities to connect faith with physical engagement. St. John's Fly Fishers fosters a deeper appreciation for God’s creation through fishing, Bible study, retreats, and skill-building. Tai Chi provides a meditative practice that strengthens both body and spirit. Golf Fellowship brings members together for friendship and recreation, cultivating community through shared passion. Through these experiences, we live out our faith in motion, deepening our connection with God and one another.
Engage the World
Engage the World calls us to live out our faith by fostering understanding, reconciliation, and action in our community and beyond. Sacred Ground is a transformative journey within The Episcopal Church’s commitment to racial healing, inviting participants to explore history, reflect on faith, and engage in honest conversations that lead to deeper connections and justice. The Way Forward provides space for meaningful discussions on social issues, encouraging growth, action, and unity within our parish and the broader Charlotte community. Through these initiatives, we step beyond our comfort zones, embracing faith as a force for change and reconciliation in the world around us.
