Celebrate Christmas Eve with St. John’s Choir and The Incarnation

Written by Jamey Graves

Recorded in 2001 by the Utah State University and LDS Institute combined choirs and orchestra.

This Christmas Eve, the St. John’s Choir will share the beautiful cantata The Incarnation by K. Lee Scott. The music begins at 7:50 p.m., leading us right into the 8:30 p.m. Christmas Eve service. With the choir, organ, brass, and a breathtaking solo by soprano Madeline Seconi, this 30-minute performance is the perfect way to prepare our hearts and minds to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Music That Brings the Christmas Story to Life

The Incarnation is more than a performance—it’s a chance to experience the Christmas story in a new and powerful way. Each movement reflects on different aspects of the Nativity, from the angels proclaiming “Glory Be to God on High” to the gentle reminder that “Love Came Down at Christmas.”

Hearing this live, with the richness of brass and organ filling the space, creates a sense of awe and wonder. The music has a way of quieting the distractions of the season and centering us on the heart of Christmas: the miracle of God becoming one of us.

Featuring Madeline Seconi

This special performance will feature soprano soloist Madeline Seconi, who has been part of the St. John’s community as our Soprano Section Leader for five years. Madeline’s talent and passion shine through in every note, and her voice brings a beauty and depth that will make this cantata unforgettable.

Madeline is also making waves in the opera world. She’s been performing with Opera Carolina, where she recently appeared in Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci, and she’ll be featured in their production of Carmen this February. We’re incredibly blessed to have her share her gifts with us this Christmas Eve.

Why This Moment Matters

There’s something special about starting Christmas Eve with music. It gives us a moment to pause, breathe, and reflect on the miracle of what we’re about to celebrate. The Incarnation does just that, reminding us of the wonder, joy, and love that came into the world on that first Christmas night.

We hope you’ll join us early for this musical prelude. It’s the perfect way to settle your heart and mind, ready to worship and celebrate the Savior’s birth with the whole church family. Come, listen, and let this beautiful music draw you into the peace and joy of Christmas.
